Bob’s experience with soccer started as a player in the 70’s in middle school. At that time the soccer league in Grand Rapids was known as the “Burger King” leagues. Bob played and was captain of his High School team @ Union playing Left Wing and Center Forward. He also played for club teams and in recreation leagues
around Grand Rapids as well as indoor leagues in the winters. After high school, Bob played in adult leagues around the area for 7 years, and even transitioned into Rugby for the GR Gazelle’s for a brief time.
As a high school student, Bob had proposed and became active in working with the GRPS school board to recognize and bring soccer into all city high schools as a Varsity sport. The effort was successful
the year AFTER he graduated from Union. Bob has coached both YMCA and Grand Rapids Recreation teams at
all age levels for about 9 years after hanging up his cleats. After many years away from the sport he loves, his decision last year, to return to the coaching front gave him his first year of PASS‐FC experience with the U17 Girls team. He plans on obtaining his E License this summer.
Bob has been married for 26 years and resides in Cascade. He has a 22 year old son, and an 18 year old daughter. He has always lived here in Grand Rapids and is very excited to be able to again become
involved with soccer and coaching for PASS, and looks forward to staying involved and working with players in the PASS program in the future.
